Rob is a historian specialising in the railways of the north east (a subject particularly close to my heart), and has recently written a book on the Stanhope and Tyne Railway which is due for this month.
We sat down and chatted about all things railways! Why did the Stanhope and Tyne need different modes of power? Why was the north east such fertile ground for railways, and what fostered his love of the iron rail?
