No bairns ever in the road - The Unsung Role of Women in Coalfield Communities
In its many histories, the Durham coalfield is a manly place. For two centuries, the coalfield was written about as if women were scarcely present. Yet, women played a crucial role in what Marxists call the “reproduction of labour power”. Caring for mining households was arduous labour. This work was never counted in the official statistics of economic output, productivity, and trade, but women’s work was critical to these indices.

Merry Christmas! 🎄
That's it for me until after Christmas. I hope you all have a lovely & restful festive period. Also I want to thank everyone who has supported us, whether you're here to flick through our posts or to give us foundational support, it means the world. This year has been a massive success - money raised for children with SEN needs, big expansions on the site and new turf walked across the North East. Also, an incredible amount of support for our walks, socials and the Compendium
