NEHL - Through photographic evidence, we know cricket matches were held at The Hilly before it was landscaped and filled in, before the 60s. A photograph held by the Durham Archives shows the match taking place between two large hills, the furthest likely being The Hilly.

It's not known which team if any played here, though there was a Thornley Colliery Welfare CC playing at this time.
