HER Description

NEHL - A rifle range stood adjacent to Silksworth Colliery in the 19th century, and is visible on the 1890s Ordnance Survey map of the area. The range was 300 yards long, with the target in a dug out earthwork next to the pit heaps of the colliery.

The site of the range is now mostly the reservoir near the sports complex.
