HER Description

This is the Blacksmiths at Pittington, sitting at the top of the hill close to the site of the old railway station.

It’s inevitably named so as it was adjacent to the village smithy, similar to Dalton last week. The building was constructed by at least the 1850s, and makes for quite a curious corner unit attached to a larger terrace, creating a T shaped structure.

The pub formerly had a quoits ground attached, while the landlord also hosted rabbit coursing nearby. Combined with its use an auction house and its distance to the railway station, this pub was certainly the spine of community goings on.

It’s a stone built pub, though has been rendered which somewhat disguises its age. The Quoits ground, situated round the side of the property, leaves no trace.
