HER Description

NEHL - A new Quoits ground was opened by Messrs Percy and Wood at Quality Row in 1882, which was on the east bank of the Ouseburn.

There was a "good attendance" to witness the results of a couple of matches. These were between C. Carman of Stargate and W. Waters of Throckley and Simpson of Scotswood and Mason of Walker.

The exact site of the Quoits ground is unknown, though Quality Row was a fairly small street. It was likely in a small yard to the rear of one of the properties.
