NEHL - The landlord of the Blue Bell, Robert Murray, advertised Quoits matches in the Newcastle Chronicle in the 1860s with a prize of £1 for amateurs only.

Though the pub itself is the same building as it was then, its surroundings have changed greatly. The yard appears to have stretched between what is now the pub garden and car park, so was likely played to its immediate north.
