HER Description

NEHL - A quoits ground was located at Jesmond Field House by the 1860s, and is noted in a number of newspapers as the Jesmond Quoit Ground. References of the ground commence from around 1866, though the Field House had existed in the 1850s.

Various popular exhibition matches took place here. One such was in October 1866 between Robert Fairless and Thomas Ramsay, both of Wideopen for £20 as the prize. It was said to have had a "large muster" of people.

The Field House has been demolished and replaced with apartments.
