HER Description

NEHL - Hunwick Rovers Football Club's home ground was located near to the Miners Arms at New Hunwick. Their team was founded either in the late 1880s or 1890, as per contemporary newspapers from the time.

A new cricket club at Hunwick was formed in 1894, and played at a "suitable ground secured in the Hunwick Rovers football field, near to the Miners' Arms, New Hunwick". This is the same cricket club today. It is important to note cricket was played in the area as early as the 1850s, though the location of the ground is not known.

Neither the Miners' Arms or the field still exist - housing developments took over the site.
