NEHL - The Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground was constructed in the grounds of old Hetton Hall in 1929 to provide recreational facilities for the miners of Eppleton Colliery.

The first occasion it appears on the Ordnance Survey is the edition surveyed in 1939. It's listed as a cricket ground, with a pavilion on its eastern side and the Hetton Methodists ground adjacent.

Eppleton CW FC were the first tenants, and continued using the ground until 2005. Sunderland Ladies and Reserves team now utilise the pitch, and has been the venue for the Durham Challenge Cup in recent decades.
