HER Description

NEHL - A small rifle range was located just off Benfield Road in the mid 20th century according to Ordnance Survey maps. It was situated in a small rectangular building alongside a wider set of sports grounds, which included bowling greens, tennis courts and probably cricket. It was on the banks of the Wallsend Burn before it was culverted for housing.

Thanks to @SimonGoldsmith9 for highlighting some further info after visiting as a teenager. .22 rifles were fired here, and was a civilian shooting club. There was an office at the back end with a basic gravelled floor and targets at the far end. Brick built with possible asbestos tiled roof.
