HER Description

Perhaps as part of the Moor Court development, the front green once occupied by the racecourse was home to a netball court in the mid 20th century. It was first a tennis court from at least the 1920s with a pavilion also constructed, but repurposed after the war.

Sadly, there's very sparse reference to this court apart from Ordnance Survey maps from the 1930s to the 1950s. This does lead me to think it was a private court given matches would have been reported on, however reports may have just omitted the clubs location. There is aerial photographs from 1929 with the pavilion in situ, and the net just in view beyond the trees.

The land is now simply a green recreational area.
