HER Description

NEHL - An annual church festival took place within the grounds of Rogerley Hall during the 1870s, in which a number of sports were played for prizes. Cricket is the only one mentioned, though we can expect bowls, quoits etc (uncomfirmed). The Frosterley Church Festival of 1876 is mentioned in the Darlington & Richmond Herald, where "tea was provided, a band of music was present, and the day being fine a large number of persons assembled to partake of the tea and indulge in the many sports which were introduced). The proceeds were to pay for a new bell at Frosterley Church.
