NEHL - A recreation ground is illustrated on maps covering the 1940s and 1930s, having previously been moorland close to Fishburn Mill. This was the home ground of the Fishburn Colliery Welfare football and cricket teams, with contemporary newspapers indicating their inception in 1928.

There was a pavilion on its southwest corner, with the land being landscaped for an even pitch from the Harap Road end. This is still evident in the shape of the site, with the wooded area east of the ground being that landscaping.

The ground has been used by a variety of teams - first the welfare teams as well as Fishburn CC, Fishburn Boys FC and more recently Fishburn Community FC.

There is also a bowling green on its western side.

Thank you to East Rainton CC (@east_raintoncc) for highlighting the ground.
