HER Description

NEHL - A rifle range can be seen at this location on the 1890s Ordnance Survey map. There were little amenities apart from a target on the banks of Old Durham Beck and various distance markers 100 yards apart. It is unclear who it was owned by and who used it - suggestions may be those who worked at Old Durham Colliery or the residents of Old Durham and Shincliffe.
