HER Description

An open-air ice rink was opened on this site in 1940, with a canvas roof added shortly after. The rink was rebuilt as a covered building in 1947 following a fire that destroyed the original (1). It was dilapidated by 2012 when it was subject to historic building recording prior to its proposed demolition (2). The building had been completely remodelled in the later 20th century as a bowling alley and health and fitness centre and all original apparatus associated with its original function had been removed. The building was a steel framed structure, rectangular in plan and externally clad in corrugated metal sheeting.
