A newspaper reports from 1838 states Cambois Links was used for a cricket match between Mr Popkiss of Waterloo and Mr Leadbitter of Blyth, for dinner and wine for a dozen gentlemen at two innings each.

The game likely permeated from Newcastle, and it was in this year that the time gained their own private ground at Northumberland Baths. The game had also been played for at least 80 years prior in the North East, with the earliest at Redheugh. Therefore there's a good chance it was already cemented in the collective conscience.

The game was likely located near to the later Cambois Colliery site, as the original Cambois settlement was in this area. However, this can't be known for certain.

Cambois in May 2024. This is likely there the match was played, with the topography very different in those days.
