HER Description

NEHL - A rifle range could be found off Shields Road at the current Newcastle Retail Park. It was a small rectangular building with a corrugated iron roof, and played host to a number of city-wide contests. An excerpt from the Chronicle in 1871 details a prize meeting organised by the Newcastle Rifle Association, where £100 and £30 money prizes were offered.

The building was later taken over by Ringtons Tea in the 1900s.
