Blanchland CC

Though the site isn't fully known, this is probably where Blanchland CC played in the 1860s. This makes it a fairly early team in rural Northumberland, influenced by other early teams like Benfieldside. In fact, they appear to be the only team they ever played against with very regular matches here and over near Consett.

The first recorded match I can find is in June 1864, when a "most exciting match" was played between XI of each on the Cricket Ground near the village of Blanchland. Refreshments were supplied by Mr Green of the Angel Inn (once situated on The Square but now part of the Lord Crewe).

The club sadly faded. There is scarce mention of the club beyond the 1870s for reasons unknown. In fact, there's never been a club here since.
