HER Description

Though there is little other information, it's known Palace Green once hosted its own bowling green. It was situated adjacent to the Reading Rooms, School of Industry and the Tweed Brewery, encapsulated by the large townhouses of Palace Green. The green itself was almost in the shape of a narrow dome almost like the Ancient Greek athletics stadiums, hemmed in by gardens with an entrance on the south side.

There is sadly next to no reference to bowls being played here in newspapers or otherwise, but it can be presumed the Reading Rooms administered the bowling grounds. By the 1890s there is no indication at all the site was used for sports.
