HER Description

Beadnell Amateur Football Club were formed for the 1936-37 season by the Vicar of Beadnell Rev. L Wilkinson. A keen sportsmen, he was instrumental in the formation of the club in what was then still a small village and harbour. It is very likely they played on the Vicarage grounds, which is further confirmed by the legible pitch outline and goal posts on aerial shots from 1951.

The club continuously battled against low numbers despite relative success. For much of its history they played in the North Northumberland League, specifically Division II, but always found a way to muster numbers until the late 60s. They had even won the title in the early 60s promoting them to Division I. THey also played in the Anderson Cup, a local knockout competition against such teams as Craster, Belford and Aydon Forest.

The club "temporarily" quit the league in 1968 due to low numbers. Sadly however, it appears they never restarted.
