The first known official bowling club was commenced in conjunction with the parish in 1911. Two sets of bowls were purchased and permission was sought from the vicar to play on the Rectory lawn which remains on Church Street. Mr S Hagon was the clubs first secretary with a Mr AP Scott presiding by the year after. Meetings were held in the church infant school. There are scant references to bowls matches thereafter, so we can only presume the venture was short lived.
