Description

The yard was based at West View Terrace at the location of the Atlas Rivet Works in Dunston. Because there was no direct access to the river, boats were taken away on a low loader to be launched nearby.

According to info provided on Tynebuiltships, steel was salvaged from the nearly gas holders that were being demolished. They were fitted out with reconditioned bus/lorry engines and other equipment was second hand. They were cheap due to this, and totalled £50,000 to be sea ready. Many went out to the fishing fleets at Shields, Scarborough etc.
