NEHL - A coal shaft is illustrated on the 1890s maps at Rift Cottages, near the larger Wylam Rift farm. The shaft does not appear on 1850s maps, so may have only been in use between this decade and the 1890s. It appears there was a straight footpath or road leading to North Wylam Station, which may be related to the working.
