Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A coal shaft is illustrated in the mid 19th century Ordnance Survey maps as 'old', meaning it was in service pre-1850s. This is one of two shafts along the dene which are unconnected to a path or road, meaning they may be ventilation for a larger working.
