Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A cluster of coal shafts were found in a field just south east of Nunriding Moor farm in the 1890s, but appear to be older. There are 4 in this field alone, with another on the top of Nunriding Banks.

There is a good chance this was Nunriding Colliery, a short lived working opened by John Caisley in 1870. He advertises both screened and unscreened coals to locals in the Morpeth Herald, and was likely a small landsale enterprise. There is seldom other mention of the working, and no evidence to suggest another site for this pit.

The shafts have been capped over and is now used wholly for agriculture.
