NEHL - There is a group of coal shafts dating from the second half of the 19th century o the western bank of the River Font. They are not shown on the first epoch of the Ordnance Survey, but are shown as 'old' on the 1890s editions. As a result it is presumed they were casual workings for local industry and domestic use.
