Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - This is one of a collection of coal shafts dotted around Edge and Woodland. They predate Cow Close Colliery, so may have been ventilation shafts for the first Crake Scar Colliery which stood at the east side of the village in the mid 19th century. This shaft is no longer visible.
