Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A coal pit is labelled as "old" on the Ordnance Survey map surveyed in 1857. There were no major collieries in the immediate vicinity, so it's likely this was a local working, perhaps the owners of South Cornmoor Farm, as a cheap supply of coal. There was a quarry nearby also, so perhaps they were connected.
