Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - This is one of two coal shafts situated about 100m west of Carr's Drift and Denton Dean. This shaft is not annotated as 'old' on the Ordnance Survey maps of the 1860s so was potentially still in use at this point, either as access or ventilation. However, the shaft is not illustrated on later maps and may have been capped.

The footpath did remain to the pit though, and much of the route is now Mapperley Drive.

There is no trace today of the shaft.
