NEHL - One of a number of drift mines stood in Waterhouses Woods, linked by tramway to Waterhouses Colliery Mary Pit north of the river Deerness. There were around 7 in total and may have provided extra access to seams below from the shaft at the village. Some had started to come out of use by the 1890s having only been worked a few decades.
