Description (or HER record listing)
NEHL - A coal shaft appears on the 1850s Ordnance Survey maps next to the River Wear at Hunwick, between Hunwick Colliery and Newfield Colliery. By the 1890s it was removed, though some ancillary building appear retained - these may be coal ovens. In the 1850s it was connected by rail, though this was severed in the coming decades.
