Paunchford Coal Co. (1880s)

Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - This coal working was rudimental in nature, hosting little facilities during time of operation. On the 1866 Ordnance Survey map, two levels are illustrated on either side of the river. Could would have been pulled out by hand. Later 19th century maps show the levels as out of use. Workers would have had to live locals as there was no roads to the mine; only footpaths leading north to Midgy Hall and south to various small farmsteads.
