Description (or HER record listing)

A small dark soilmark is visible on recent air photos. It is located within one of the strip fields that runs perpendicular to Netherton Lane. It coincides with a slight earthwork disturbance observed on air photos taken in 1947. At that time ridge and furrow survived as earthworks in this and surrounding fields and the plough ridges are slighted where the soilmark is later seen. This may be the remains of a small post medieval coal pit. There are other coal workings in this area.
