Description (or HER record listing)

The New Hartley Colliery is depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1898, but not the 1865 edition. Air photos taken in 1947 show a large conical spoil heap, a small reservoir, a shaft, a powder magazine with blast wall, wagonways and other colliery buildings. All these remains have been demolished or levelled on more recent air photos.
