Description (or HER record listing)

This is the site of Allerdean Colliery. This was a typical small coal mine of north Northumberland in the 1860s. It was working in 1861 - though the coal level or levels being worked are unknown. The colliery had closed by 1869 after changes in ownership. There was a pit terrace nearby for accommodation for the workers.
