Description (or HER record listing)

Coal mining in this area has been noted from the second edition Ordnance Survey mapping of the area. It is likely that this was Post Medieval in date and dug to supply the immediate local needs of Lowick village. The coal was extracted from the Fawcet and Scremerston Coal Main Seams.
