Description (or HER record listing)

This was one of the major north Northumberland collieries extracting coal from the Scremerston Coal series of seams. The colliery was established about 1808 when an advert was placed with the local press for workers. By the time of the first edition Ordnance Survey the colliery was presumably not working as it is marked as "Disused".
