Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - An old shaft could be found beside the small stream at Spring Gardens Farm near Ornsby Hill. On the 1890s Ordnance Survey map this is simply denoted as an 'old shaft', but earlier editions from 1861 illustrate as 'Spring Gardens Colliery'. It looks to have been ran from the farmhouse with very limited facilities and no railway connection. There are coal levels nearby which may connect with this working.
