Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A small coal pit is shown just off Blackett Street in the 1861 Ordnance Survey map. There was a small building which presumably hosted the shaft. A footpath led Stewart Pit down to Annfield Plain. It does not appear on later maps, indicating it was disused by the 1890s.
