Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A coal shaft was located south west of Tanhill, now better known as Kimblesworth. It is first known on 1850s Ordnance Surey maps in a small enclosed rectangular area, implying this site may have been an earlier abandoned working. This is reinforced by the settlement of Broadmires - a set of 3 pit rows now lost which were likely built to support a colliery nearby. There is nothing operational into the 1850s, which leads me to conclude this was related.

Today, the enclosure has been removed and cultivated as part of the wider farmland.
