Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - An old shaft is illustrated on the 1861 Ordnance Survey map, though vanishes by the next iteration in the 1890s. There is a small chance this is Mount Pit, one of the Tanfield Moor Collieries. By the 1850s it was simply a heap and covered over shaft. Nowadays the area is wooded.
