Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A set of at least 2 coal pits were situated to the west of Beaufront Castle in the 19th century, and were disused before the 1860s. They are illustrated on the Ordnance Survey surveyed in the early 1860s, with two shafts and an ancillary building shown in the south end of a field west of the country house.

Little more is known of the pits and had disappeared by the 1890s. They were presumably owned and operated by the Beaufront Estate for local use.
