Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A coal shaft here was connected by tramway to both Norwood Colliery and Cragg Wood Colliery in the mid 19th century, implying it was connected to both. On the 1859 map, the line to Norwood Colliery is illustrated as the Isabella Railway, dipping under the Barnard Castle NER line.

There was an engine house here, but by the 1890s only the shaft remained.
