Description (or HER record listing)
The West Ellimore Pit was a minor working near Crook Hall, a few hundred metres south of Crookhall Iron Works and a mile or two from Leadgate. It was connected to the Crookhall Railway, a branch from the Stanhope & Tyne to Crookhall Colliery south. The pit extracted coal & clay, and featured a single building with rail running underneath it - likely chutes to drop into wagons to send off to the nearby metal works.
The pit was extinct by the 1890s, and will ultimately only have had a short lifespan.
