Description (or HER record listing)
NEHL - A small pit working could be found just south of Chartershaugh near Fatfield, Washington. It had vanished by the 1890s, though is extant in the 1860s. It is one of a number of pits likely owned as part of the Chartershaugh portfolio, as the gentry often opened a variety of pits naming them after local features, family names or events. This was probably William Peareth. There is also Row Pit, Shiphouse Pit, Fortune Pit and Dolly Pit nearby.
