Description (or HER record listing)
NEHL - A small coal working was excavated near Fieldhead farm north of Charlton, and was worked until some time in the 19th century. It features on the 1890s Ordnance Survey map as disused, with a path running to a small waste heap and disturbed ground. No buildings or other distinctive features are illustrated, meaning the working probably went out of use some decades before illustration. The 1860s map shows a horizontal shaft and small building, so was certainly worked before 1860.
