Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A coal shaft is illustrated just north east of Causey Hall next to Causey Burn. It is labelled as old on the 1861 map, meaning it was likely disused by the time the area was surveyed in the 1850s. It is likely the shaft was utilised locally rather than an industrial operation.
