Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A coal shaft was located in what's now the Buzz Bingo parking lot through the latter half of the 19th century.

The pit ceased operations by the 1850s, as it was labelled as "old" on the 1850s Ordnance Survey Maps. It probably provided alternative access or ventilation to the wider Willington Colliery workings, alongside the shaft a few metres south closer to the Willington Square settlement.
