Description (or HER record listing)

Christo Pit was a small working on the George Pit branch on the Willington Waggonway, and was closed by the 1850s.

It has been referred to as both the Christo Pit and the Craster Pit, and is labelled on both the 1850s and 1890s plan. By this time however, the name was retained only for the few cottage houses which remained until the advent of the Rising Sun Colliery.

It was very likely owned by Willington Colliery, whose railway it joined up to. If this is the case, in its latter years it was owned by Matthew Bell who was the Conservative MP for South Northumberland.
